In this lesson, students will be able to create a cute owl in a tree with watercolor paint and learn a crayon resist technique. I will be discussing the elements of art as we paint and teach basic watercolor techniques, hints, and tricks. I will first do a directed drawing of the owl while students follow along and then we will be using a crayon resist technique to color our background and then use water color over parts of the drawing. Students will improve their understanding of the crayon resist and watercolor painting technique. They will also improve their understanding of the elements of art, specifically texture, value, and color.
Students will need watercolor paper (or some type of thick paper), watercolor paint, crayons, a paintbrush, pencil, eraser, sharpie, and a water dish.
