This course is a beginning workshop in Documentary production. We will practice crafting compelling stories from a personal narrative. Each week students will move through the stages needed to create a short documentary portrait (Interview, Sound editing, Video Editing, Export, Share). I hold an MFA in Cinema production and I teach at a university film school in Chicago, Il. I have instructed undergraduate as well as graduate students in cinema production, foundations of cinema, editing, and film philosophy. I also own a small educational video production company.

Learners will need a digital camera capable of recording video as well as a video editing software or application. They'll also need a sound recording device (small mic) and a volunteer to be their documentary subject. I also recommend each learner have some sort of storage device to hold their footage.
