Students will delve into deep conversations with peers about gender, race, and film. We'll learn about different countries and cultures that the films are set in. Students are encouraged to develop critical thinking skills about the media that they consume. This club also introduces students to introductory film concepts, which supports English language development skills, critical analysis skills, and media literacy. This club is discussion heavy; members are encouraged to share their thoughts, ideas, and questions and listen to the ideas of the others members. We work hard as a club to build each other up and foster a community of mutual respect and support. We play lots of trivia and occasionally include a film-related DIY!
I am a Ph.D. student in Gender, Feminist, and Women's studies with a specialty in film theory. I've been teaching kids and teens for over nine years on the intersections of gender, race, disability, and social justice!
