Students will be able to...
1. Describe how a story's plot unfolds in a series of episodes and how the characters respond or change as the plot moves toward a resolution,
2. Pose and respond to specific questions with elaboration and detail,
3. Make comments that contribute to the topic, text, or issue under discussion.

Students will be able to use the reading skills and strategies taught in this club in their schoolwork. Students will also use their discussion skills and strategies to talk in-depth about their books, pose and answer questions, and lead discussions independently.

Students will be required to read up to three assigned chapters (approximately 40 pages, depending on the edition). They will have an entire week to complete the reading. 

Students will be required to write in a weekly journal. This journal can either be in a paper format or an online/digital format. They may choose one out of three possible questions to answer in their journals. These responses should follow a specific format as posted on the classroom page. 

At the end of the course, students will have the opportunity to present a creative project of their choice (along with a tea party!).

While no formal grades will be used to assess students, each assignment will have a set of standards for students to reach in order to have a successful book club meeting. These standards will help students hone and improve their reading, speaking, and writing skills as practice for their formal schooling.
