수업 소개

In this classical Ballet workshop, students will learn about the history, hype, and how-to of famous advanced steps in classical Ballet. During our time together we will focus on the following advanced coordinations/moves: fouettés and Italian fouettés, entrechat quatre and entrechat six, and entrelace/grand jete en tournant.

Class Topic #1: Turns: Fouettés & Italian Fouettés
At the beginning of class we will start with a discussion on different Fouetté turns, including a short history, terminology, and break down of movement. We will also watch a couple clips from the well-known classical Ballets, Swan Lake and Paquita, demonstrating these coordinations performed on stage. After this we will begin a Ballet barre warmup together, focusing on specific exercises geared towards proper placement and preparation for building strength and control in our turns. Once the student has accomplished this, we will move on to the center to practice and make progress in each of the turns. To end class we will take some time to properly cool down and discuss any questions.

Class Topic #2: Batterie/Battu: Entrechat Quatre & Entrechat Six
At the beginning of class we will start with a discussion on different small jumps with batterie/battu, including a short history, terminology, and break down of movement. We will also watch a couple clips from the well-known classical Ballets, Raymonda and Giselle, demonstrating these coordinations performed on stage. After this we will begin a Ballet bare warmup together focusing on specific exercises geared towards proper placement, power, and coordination for small jumps. Once the student has accomplished this, we will move on to the center to practice and make progress in entrechat quatre and six. To end class we will take some time to properly cool down and discuss any questions.

Class Topic #3: Grand Allegro: Entrelace/Grand Jete en Tournant
At the beginning of class we will start with a discussion on grand allegro, specifically interlace/grand jete en tournant, including a short history, terminology, and break down of movement. We will also watch a couple clips from well-known classical Ballets demonstrating these coordinations performed on stage. After this we will begin a Ballet bare warmup together focusing on specific exercises geared towards proper placement, power, and coordination for big jumps and grand allegro. Once the student has accomplished this, we will move on to the center to practice and make progress in preparation for interlace/grand jete en tournant. To end class we will take some time to properly cool down and discuss any questions.

This class is intended as a fun challenge for the intermediate/advanced level and learners will follow along with the instructor at a moderate to fast pace. Some previous experience is recommended, at least 2-3 years of Ballet. Any questions or comments are welcomed and will be answered during class time.

Hello!

My name is Ms. Emily and I live in the Chicago area dancing, performing, and teaching ballet professionally. I began teaching a variety of dance classes for youth ages 3-22 over twelve years ago. From Pre-Ballet to Pre-Professional, I’ve taught it all, enjoying every step of the way. Im so grateful to Outschool for giving me the opportunity to connect with students globally and make a difference in every virtual meeting!

My teaching style is threefold: encouraging, imaginative, and productive. I love opening the floor for questions and to further help students understand the intention, mechanics, and history behind each step. Knowing the how’s and why’s is the key to becoming your own artist and building confidence and trust in your body. Dance is my passion and it is my hope and priority to provide a fun, mindful, and interactive learning experience for all learners and students of any age and level!

After graduating I was accepted by audition to a Chicago ballet company, where I have performed and toured the nation professionally since 2016 as a Solo Artist. During this time I have also directed a pre-professional program geared towards advancing the serious student, teaching a variety of classes nation-wide, choreographing, and coordinating performance opportunities in both community spaces and professional stages.

In addition to this I am professionally certified in Progressing Ballet Technique and have an extensive background in the study of beginning thru advanced ballet, pre-pointe, and pointe work, as well as experience in teaching modern, jazz, improv, and choreography. You name it, I teach it! I am dedicated to furthering my own knowledge daily to best help your student succeed.

Above all my desire is to offer high quality training in an accessible and modern-age environment. I also believe one-to-one mentoring in the arts is important and should be affordable and available to everyone. I’m dedicated to helping bring small and low-income communities professional training to the comfort and convenience of your own home. In addition to this, online classes can be a perfect supplement to your weekly training - Enjoy the benefits of multiple teachers and perspectives! My classes are short and sweet, designed to be supplemental to the training your student already receives. For a full list of classes offered, please reach out to me directly to get started. *I am happy to provide more information regarding financial aid, private class opportunities, and how to best supplement your in-person training with online classes.*

In my free time I like to explore the city of Chicago, travel the world, and spend time baking, cooking, and trying new recipes.
