수업 소개
Growing up, I was around a lot of birds, however I really did not know anything about them or appreciate them. Now I am an avid bird watcher and photographer. I want to share my love of birds with children. We will talk about the birds, where they live, what they eat, and many other interesting facts. Each week we will focus on a different bird/ bird family. The students will also learn how to use birding identification guides and clues on how to identify birds. Each week we will look at pictures of the bird that we are studying. We will also talk about birds that are very similar, and what makes this bird unique and how to identify it from other similar birds. Students will be encouraged to share any information that they know about the bird and if they have any pictures, they can share them. The habitat will be discussed and what they eat. We will learn what sounds the bird makes. Students can ask questions about the birds that they are curious about. This class would be appropriate for 8-10 year olds that are interested in birds, it is not a Share/social class. Most of the time is spent looking at the resources, and is teacher directed. We do a bird game at the end of each class to help learn the bird sounds. I also give the students a lot of links to further their study. Some of the pictures shared will be those I have taken. I am a nature photographer, as well as avid birder. No prior knowledge is needed. The actual dates will be shown in the classroom as there are multiple sections of the class, (check this sheet (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1xK4Rhfdyh0XgMUDE3m77XGvkelMp7-UUXLcL7wPV0D0/edit?usp=sharing) This shows the order of the birds studied, and more may be added. June 14th Day 1: Buzzard June 28th Day 2: White-tailed Eagle July 5th Day 3: Hen Harrier July 12th Day 4: Marsh Harrier July 19th Day 5: Montagu's Harrier July 26th Day 6: Red Kite August 2nd Day 7: Sparrow Hawk August 9th Day 8: Golden Eagle August 16th Day 9: Osprey August 23rd Day 10: Northern Goshawk There is also an ongoing version of this class that will be available. Hello,
My name is Carol Cobb. I am passionate about helping students develop social skills, academic skills, learn how to deal with issues that they are concerned about, and explore topics they care about.
My pronouns are she/her. I believe in an inclusive classroom where all students are welcome.
My classes now center on writing skills. I have found that by helping students learn to organize their thoughts, they can master essay writing. Students can also learn different type of essays. Essay writing is an important skills for students to master.
I have been in education over 30 years. I am certified in Elementary Education, Special Education K-12, School Counseling K-12, and Middle School English. Most of by time has been as a school counselor at the elementary level. I have extensive experience teaching classroom and small groups on social skills, careers, anger management, personal and family issues, and many more! I am trained a a mediator training, and love to teach student how to use mediation to solve conflicts. These experiences help me manage the classroom and meet students needs that might come up.
I started a STEM club for 60 students and love to help students learn more about STEM topics. I have coordinated an annual STEM/Career Day for over 20 years, a family STEM night, and even a Virtual Career Day one year. I led a team to compete in Battle of the Brains on saving the rain forests. I also love nature, especially bird study and photography. These interests and experiences help me relate to many of the student's topics, as they seem to be very popular.
My special education and counseling training helps me help students that are autistic or those with ADHD. I try to make sure my classes meet the needs of those with unique learning needs.
I want the classes to learn not only content, but how to respect each other and learn from each other. It is important that the learning environment is positive and safe. I am hoping that some of the classes such as birding will become ongoing classes. I want students to be actively engaged in the process.

Class Policies:
1) I will do my best to keep classes on schedule, while also taking into account if a student has a need that may require a little more time it is important to take that into consideration. If other students are in the class, they would be free to leave at the scheduled ending time.
2) It is expected that all students and teacher will show respect, and be shown respect by others. It needs to be a safe environment. If students are warned and do not stop any disrespectful behavior, they will be muted briefly and then given another chance. If this happens the parent will be notified.
3) Class will start on time, and no contact will be made with those absent during class time. Parents will be contacted if students are absent to discuss any technical issues, need to reschedule if another class session is planned, or if it meets criteria for refund. If no learners are in the class, I will exit after 10 minutes and then contact parents.
