Entomology is the scientific study of insects, a branch of zoology. Entomology also includes the study of animals in other arthropod groups, such as arachnids, myriapods, and crustaceans. 1. Attain a solid foundation in insect biology, including general entomology, basic systematics, morphology, physiology, and biodiversity. 2. Understand evolution and biodiversity generation through macro- and micro-evolutionary processes, including how these processes have formed and diversified insects. 3. Attain skills in written and verbal scientific communication. 4. Develop the ability to design and perform a scientific study on insects, and to analyze results. 5. Develop an understanding of the distributions and abundances of organisms including insects, and their interactions with each other and the environment. 6. Gain appreciation of insects in society, and as model systems in insect biology. 7. Learn the difference techniques for collecting hard and soft bodied insects. 8. Learn the basics of bug collecting, and creating a full collection.
Mrs. Collins has been teaching science for 23 years. She is also certified to teach entomology to students and teachers.
