Is your learner struggling in school? Are they having a difficult time understanding different math concepts? Do they have to move on to the next topic before comprehending what was taught prior? As a homeschooling mom and a former teacher in NY, I have experience teaching students of all ages. I have worked with my students to help them build confidence when it comes to regrouping in subtraction, multiplying multi-digit numbers, place value, and more. If you are interested in having me work one-on-one with your child, I ask that the adults provide information on what topics your child is struggling at least 48 hours prior to our first session so that I am able to use my resources to build a custom learning plan for your learner. I believe in focusing on what children do know, then building up from there so that the gaps in their knowledge can be filled in and provide students with a solid base as they proceed in their education. Tutoring sessions will be taught with different visuals and manipulatives when it comes to math to encourage students to be able to visualize the concepts. The early sessions will start out as an informal assessment of ability, based on the adult information provided. Sometimes going further back on a topic will be necessary to ensure that the student is building a solid foundation of understanding. For example, if a student was struggling with multi-digit multiplication, it might be necessary to step back into place value to revisit what the numbers are telling us, and how we can take numbers apart, and then put them back together (356= 300+ 50 +6). Scaffolding will take place during these sessions, so as the learners understanding increases, so will the difficulty of what we are working on together. These sessions will be positive and encouraging to promote success.
