Students will improve their reading and comprehension skills, as well as their conversational skills, as we progress through analyzing the book during class time.
I have taught this novel for a couple of years with much success. This literary analysis focuses on adolescent challenges. Through guided discussions, students are able to gain an understanding of some of the numerous types of difficulties that children, and young adults, face while growing up. As readers, we learn that hardships and challenges are a part of life. Our goal is to find ways to cope with these challenges.
Students will need to borrow or purchase a copy of Kate DiCamillo’s book, The Tiger Rising.
Sadness, loneliness and fear are described within the story. The story also deals with the hardships that a character faces after their mother passes away. Please read a summary of the text online, so that you may decide whether or not your learner is ready for this type of chapter book.
