This is one of a series to help older readers who are struggling with reading. The methods used in this program are based on the Orton-Gillingham approach, in that, every sound and spelling rule is taught in a structured, cumulative manner with repetition. The entire reading program is 55 lessons with exercises and word lists, designed to gradually teach students to decode words using intensive phonics, rules, and memory cues. I am a former Special Education teacher with specialized training in literacy and phonics instruction for struggling readers. I have used the "I Can Fly" reading program with success with many of my tutoring students.
Students must purchase "A Workbook for Dyslexics" by Cherly Orlassino. You may find it on Amazon or at used bookstores. You may get the Third Edition, Large Print, or a newer copy. The Second Edition may also be used but may have some concepts or activities that are significantly different from what we will be using in class.
