Students in this class will obtain a deeper understanding of the natural world. Students will develop awareness, knowledge, skills, and commitment resulting in informed decisions, responsible behavior, and constructive actions concerning wildlife and the environment.

Students will also gain confidence and speaking skills while sharing projects with peers in a low-pressure setting.

Alison Blanco is an environmental scientist living in Southwest Florida and has worked on projects involving the Florida panther, fire in Florida's ecosystems, and other conservation biology issues. She has a Bachelor of Science degree in Zoology from the University of Florida and a Master of Science degree in Environmental Science from Florida Gulf Coast University. Alison has taught biological and physical science to middle, high school, and college students in both public school and the private sector for over 20 years.

This is a project based class, so students should be prepared to work for 1-2 hours each week on their projects. Some activities are open-ended projects, in which they design and create a project based on a specific ecology topic. Others are outside activities involving observation or measurement. Some parental assistance may be needed.

Each project that is sent in to the teacher will receive informal, encouraging feedback. 

Numerical grades are available upon request.

Many activities in this class originated from Project WILD, an interdisciplinary conservation and environmental education program that focuses on wildlife and habitat. Alison Blanco is a trained Project WILD instructor.
