Students will learn basic music theory concepts such as major and minor scales and their relationships, major and minor chords, and the pentatonic and blues scales may be introduced with improvisational activities. An overview of the eight weeks is as follows:

Week 1: C scale and triads, stacking chords. Play around with the C scale and discuss the pentatonic scale and improvisation.
Week 2: Major and minor scales and arpeggios. Listening exercises. Invitation to play for each other.
Week 3: The circle of fifths, listening exercises, rhythm activities. Learning a song by ear. 
Week 4: Warm up activities and review, improvisation in a given key. 
Week 5: Warm up and review, invitation to play for each other. Introduction to additional keys within the Circle of Fifths
Week 6: The blues scale, blues improvisation, rhythm exercises.
Week 7: Listening exercises: Play what I play, variations on a theme. Continuation of introduction to the blues.
Week 8: Warm up actives and review, invitation to play for each other. 

Aurore has been teaching piano off an on for over twenty years. She has an undergraduate degree in humanities and music as well as a Master in Education and has been a performing musician with various folk and jazz groups over the years.
