In this four week flex class, students will learn background information on various science labs to conduct at home and learn investigative practices using STEM to learn about various concepts to learn about viral science activities and why they do, or do not, work. Students will learn about the properties of soap, water, soda, and solubility through engaging lessons and scientific investigations.
I have been a middle school science teacher for 10 years, and have obtained a Bachelors in Elementary Education with licensure in Middle School Science and High School Biology. I have a Masters in Science Education 6-12 grade and a Doctorate in Educational Leadership, which also focuses on scientific investigation processes while conducting research and ethics behind research and safety practices to ensure safe and fair investigations. I have also taught Elementary Education and worked as a STEM instructor for over 10 years through STEM initiative schools, teaching students how to learn through hands on and student lead investigations. I have conducted all labs listed in this class in my own classroom, and review safety practices for every lab.

Students will receive practice kahoot and breakoutedu.com games to review. Lab completion is independent, which serves as homework for this class. Extra resources may be provided upon request as labs can be time consuming for completion.수업 외 주당 1 - 2 시간

Each week students will receive a printable (or editable through word) document for their laboratory experiment. In addition, these supplies are recommended for each week (please note this list is comprehensive of student completing all 3 labs- if you only intend to do one of the labs, read the description above to determine which materials you need for which labs) Week 1 supplies: expo markers, sand, salt, sugar, water, and containers to conduct investigatoins Week 2 supplies: soap, water, pepper, food coloring, milk, hand sanitizer, slinky, and containers to conduct investigations Week 3 supplies: soda, egg, mentos, school glue and containers to conduct investigations Week 4 supplies: string/yarn, paper towels, cup, water, food coloring and containers to conduct investigations

Students will be working with a variety of different substances to create chemical reactions. Parental supervision is suggested. Students will receive supplemental videos that support learning on occasion from YouTube (streamable in the Outschool Classroom), and digital activities (Kahoot, Google Forms).Creation of accounts is not needed to complete activities.
Videos will be made available for viewing to additional enrichment of topics, but materials will come from teacher directly. Supplemental laboratory equipment has been recommended in the supplies list to enhance learning, as the teacher will be using these resources as well.
