This Algebra curriculum is divided into 4 parts. My personal belief is that algebra should be taught over 1-2 years depending on your child. In each of these parts your child will be taught the skill and then asked to apply the skill in a discovery lesson. Skill learning will be circular within each part. Meaning a skill that you learned in Part 1 will be retaught with further learning in another part. Below is a breakdown of what you will see in this class. In this class we will be working...
• Represent real world situations with linear equations and solve • Solve equations with one variable by using addition, subtraction, multiplication, or division. • Solve multi-steps equations • Solve equations containing multiple variables for a specific variable • Create equations and inequalities in one variable and use them to solve problems • Create equations in two or more variables to represent relationships between quantities graph equations on coordinate axes with labels and scales • Represent constraints by equations or inequalities, and by systems of equations, and /or inequalities, and interpret solutions a viable or non-viable options in a modeling context • Graph lines in a coordinate plane. • Represent linear patterns with equations and graphs. • Determine whether a relation is a function • Identify the domain and range of relations • Calculate the slope of a line using rise/run and ratio of the differences of x and y coordinates • Define, explain, and use the components of the slope-intercept equation • Define, explain, and use the components of the standard form equation. • Identify parallel and perpendicular lines by comparing their slopes • Write equations of lines that are parallel and perpendicular to given lines • Finding the rate of change from a graph • Solving and graphing direct variation equations • Defining, explaining, and using the components of the point-slope form equation. • Solve linear inequalities that involve addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. • State and apply the multiplication and division properties of inequality. • Solve multi-step inequalities in one variable. • Graph solution sets of compound inequalities. • Solve compound inequalities of the first degree • Properties of absolute values function • Using formulas to solve equations in one and two variables.
