Each week students will engage in a thematic topic of Greek and/or Roman history. Some weeks we will discuss an important historical event (e.g. the eruption of Mount Vesuvius); other weeks will be more biographical in nature (e.g. The Emperor Augustus); and others will be more topical (e.g. food and dining customs in Greece and Rome). Each week's lesson will include key facts about WHO was involved, WHAT happened, WHEN it occurred, WHERE it was, and WHY it mattered then and still matters...

Lots of ancient history was pretty grizzly. The myths and history alike involved murder as well as natural deaths, not to mention the blood sport of gladiator combat! I refrain from showing violent images and do my best to make conversations age-appropriate. We do not, however, simply avoid discussing such topics as this would not preserve the integrity of the history.
I will post any relevant materials (articles, videos, etc.) in the Classroom for students to access. The bibliography I’ve used to create this curriculum includes the following ancient primary source authors: Aeschylus Apollonius Caesar Cicero Euripides Herodotus Hesiod Homer Ovid Pausanias Pindar Plutarch Sallust Sophocles Suetonius Tacitus Thucydides Virgil
