크로셰로 만든 겨울 휴가용 나무: 중급 초보자, 9-13세

In this one time class, students will learn how to crochet multiple pieces in the round and combine them to make a three-dimensional object with a wooden base. Students should already know how to create a basic chain of crochet stitches, single crochet, and how to finish off a piece.

I will review the beginner stitches of crochet: chain and single chain. I will introduce crocheting in the round using increases, The Magic Ring, half double crochet stitch, assembling multiple pieces, and picot edging.

We will discuss why we use The Magic Ring instead of a slip knot for starting each tier of the trees.  For example: On a flat piece, a slip knot is used, and round pieces use magic ring beginnings; why do you think this is?

In the first 5-10 minutes, we will learn how to create The Magic Ring.

Then we will take 5-10 minutes to discuss how to assemble the wood base while I demonstrate. Parents may want to help the student with the base or assemble the base themselves after the three parts of the tree have been crocheted.

After the share session, I will do a live demonstration of the beginning steps of the pattern. I will get the students started on their project and guide them through any tough spots while working on the first few rows of the pattern together.

In the next 40 minutes, we will complete the first tier of the tree. I will be working along with the students, demonstrating as we go. We will look at the examples I have made and talk about how they want to finish their project, with a basic edge or picot edging. 

I love to interact with the students while they are learning. I give visual, auditory, and written directions for each project. I will help throughout the lesson and offer advice for different portions of the lesson during and after class.
