Bugs, insects, creepy-crawlies...these are all words to describe the amazing creatures that live in nature! Some are small, some are big, some are furry and some are dangerous! In this 6 week class, students will join weekly to learn all about entomology: the study of insects! We will be scientists that classify insects, learn about their parts, how they grow and change, as well as many interesting facts that will awaken our interest in bugs. Through observation, storytelling, engaging conversation and sketching, students will learn about: 1) what insects are 2) their classifications: Odonata, Dictyoptera, Orthoptera and Hemiptera 2) insect body parts 3) stages of metamorphosis 4) identify and name insects 5) collect and observe insects for learning purposes Students will be encouraged to participate in class and share their experiences and knowledge about insects. Each week we will cover new topics that your student can then use to explore nature!

Hello & welcome to Outschool! My name is Suzi and I'm excited to share a bit about myself.
I am a former elementary school teacher turned homeschooling mom. I have a background in Literacy education and find joy in teaching new things and helping students discover their interests through content and instruction. I think it's important to engage students through storytelling, example and hands on experiences.
As a teacher, I've taught everything from pre-school through high school grades and across all content areas. My favorite subjects to teach are history and math and I have a serious love of language and how to use it, whether it be through writing, speaking or problem solving.
My family and I live in Wisconsin. We have 3 children and 3 dogs and are originally from the East Coast...but are starting to realize we're destined to be midwesterners! My oldest is in her first year at The United States Military Academy at West Point, my middle is a junior in high school and my youngest is a freshman. I hope to see you in class soon!
