In this ongoing class, young writers will learn to begin forming sentences by thinking creatively about different pictures they see. Students will first have a brief lesson on sentence and story structure in each class. This will be kept brief, so students can spend more time writing their sentences. This is an excellent class for learners who are interested in writing, need to learn more about story and sentence structure, like writing from prompts, and are willing to be creative with their stories. After a brief lesson (5-10 minutes), students will be given a picture prompt and time to write. Depending on the class size, the time to write may vary. I will allow as much time to write as possible with periodic check-ins to the students to help build sentences, stretch the story, and allow them to explore their imagination by talking it out with me and their peers. At the end of class, students will be encouraged to share their writing with their peers. I will not force anyone to share their writing, but I would encourage each child to be brave and work on their speaking and presenting skills. Note: this class does not focus on spelling or grammar. Emalie Moore is a certified Middle and High school English Teacher. She began teaching on Outschool in 2020, has taught in the physical classroom, and worked as a writing tutor.
A life-long learner herself, Emalie holds a BA in Creative Writing, MA in English and Creative Writing [concentration in screenwriting], and will recieve her MFA in writing [concentration in Fiction] in May of 2025. While working she also decided to pursue her American Board Certification for Teacher Excellence and is now officially certified for both middle and high school English Language Arts.
