Learners will be taught how to write a common humorous poetry style called a limerick using a format.  They will first read limericks and then write their own such as:

There was an Old Man of Dumbree by Edward Lear
The Man from Peru
Pirate of Boulder
Boisterous Joel by Edel T. Copeland 

First, they will come up with an idea for their poem, 
Then write the first line using a sentence frame, "There once was a ________ from ____________"  
After that, students will come up with a list of words...
