In this class, students will work on their writing skills by creating a fan-fiction one-shot for 2 writing prompts. Fan-fiction is narrative writing where fans of a show, book, or movie write their own scenes and scenarios for different characters from the book, show, or movie. A one-shot is a piece of writing that is short and focuses on a scene or idea about one, two, or a small group of characters. The class will be structured with a 30-minute lesson focused on one of the six traits of...
Students will improve their skill on the six traits of writing including ideas, organization, voice, sentence fluency, word choice, and conventions. Students will be able to identify good character development versus bad character development. Students will be able to use a dictionary and thesaurus and know how to write context clues for new vocabulary words. Students will have two completed one-shots of their own. Students will able to discuss the different plot organization and work through which one would be the best to start their story.
