In this ongoing spelling club, we will focus on a different rule of English spelling each week. During each class, learners will familiarise themselves with the rules, and then begin to put it into practice through activities, worksheets, and games. There will be a worksheet to accompany each class to help to reinforce the spellings. It will be helpful for learners to come to class with these printed out. What will we learn? Week of 6/5/24 - Silent Letters and Unstressed Vowels - Silent Letters Week of 13/5/24 - Compound Words - Spelling Patterns and the -y rule Week of 20/5/24 - Spelling Patterns and Rules - Understanding Spelling Rules Week of 27/5/24 - Words ending with -cious and -tious - How to Spell the 'shun' sound Week of 3/6/24 - When is the 'sh' sound spelt 'ch' - When is the 'i' sound spelt 'y' Week of 10/6/24 - When is the 'uh' sound spelt 'ou' - When is the 's' sound spelt 'sc' Week of 17/6/24 - Words ending with -ture and -sure - Words ending with -sion Week of 24/6/24 - Homophones - Words with the 'ough' sound Please do contact us with any questions.
