수업 소개
In the first week, the students will learn about the Back Rank and Smothered Checkmates. In week two, they will learn how to make an Arabian Checkmate using their Knight and Rook. They will also learn how to make a Hallway Checkmate using a Queen and two Rooks. In the third week, they will learn how to make a Ladder Checkmate by using a Queen and a Rook. In week four, the students will learn how to move their Rooks to make a Two Rook Checkmate. In the last half of each class, the students will get to practice their chess skills on the lichess.org website, which is a FREE site. The teacher will provide a username, password, and directions on how to access the lichess.org website. The students will only be able to play against other students, or the teacher, in this class as the teacher has set this up as a private class on the lichess.org website.

The student's chess skills will continue to improve with more knowledge about the game, learning the rules and learning more checkmates. They will strengthen their game even more by playing against other students or the teacher on-line via the lichess.org website.

Students should have a pencil with an eraser in class and a folder to keep all their chess curriculum and homework puzzles together.

The students will be using the lichess.org website to practice various checkmates and to play games against each other or the teacher. This is a FREE site for students to access to improve their chess skills. ChessKid.com is also a great resource for students to access daily Chess Puzzles, to play chess against the computer, or against other students around the world. There are videos on this site that the students can watch, done by Grand Masters, who can really help the student achieve a higher skill level in chess.

I have taught children and adults in Beginning and Intermediate 1 Chess classes for 23 years in after school programs, summer Chess Camps, online in my Cool Chess classes and now for Central New York Chess. I love to see how Chess helps the brain to think, to make predictions, to sequence, see patterns, etc. I love to see when a student learns how to checkmate and improves upon their game!
