The students will learn about the importance of protecting their pieces early in the game. They will learn that it's best to trade a piece when they will gain a point from their opponent. The students will learn that a "free" piece is a piece that is unprotected and ready to be captured. Then, the students will learn that an overloaded piece is a piece that is having to protect too many of his own pieces at the same time. They will find out that they should try to exploit an overloaded piece...
By learning to protect their pieces and to watch out for overloaded pieces, the students will be more careful about their game, so as not to lose their pieces unnecessarily.

We will be using the lichess.org website for students to play chess games on-line. The students will be copying the game link and pasting it in the Zoom Chat Box for other students to click on and access the game. Usernames and passwords to lichess.org will not be used for this class.
ChessKid.com is an additional resource that can help the students to improve their chess skills. This website provides Chess Puzzles, practice against chess bots, and informative videos which are made by Grand Masters.
