The students will learn that when a Pawn gets all the way to the other side of the board, it will promote to either a Bishop, Knight, Queen, or a Rook. They will learn that most of the time, they will want to promote the Pawn to a Queen, since she is the most powerful piece on the board. But they will learn that sometimes, they will need to "underpromote" to a piece other than the Queen in order to get a checkmate on the board. The students will improve their chess knowledge by understanding how to promote their Pawn and to control the center of the board by playing either their "d" Pawn or their "e" Pawn.

Students will receive chess puzzle homework sheets in a PDF format to be printed out. The chess puzzle homework sheets will be discussed in class to make sure all students understand what to do.수업 외 주당 0 - 1 시간

A learner is assessed by understanding the answers on each chess puzzle assignment and knowing how to checkmate to win their games. When a student practices chess at home, with others, or on-line, their skills will increase--this will reflect in their knowledge of the game.제공되는 성적

We will be using the lichess.org website for students to play chess games on-line. The students will be copying the game link and pasting it in the Zoom Chat Box for other students to click on and access the game. Usernames and passwords to lichess.org will not be used for this class.
ChessKid.com is an additional resource that can help the student to improve their chess skills. This website provides Chess Puzzles, practice against chess bots, and informative videos which are made by Grand Masters.
