This is the perfect class to explore imperfection! In this class I will teach students: - How to create a textured Christmas wreath and bow - Introduce students to the technique of Impasto painting or help improve students who have an understanding of impasto - Use of Heavy Body acrylic paint - Color theory - How to use a painting/palette knife - How to mix paint with a palette knife - The importance of free form - Composition - Paintbrush and palette knife etiquette Impasto is a technique used in painting where paint is laid on an area of the surface in very thick layers; usually thick enough that the brush or painting-knife strokes are visible. When dry, impasto provides texture; the paint appears to be coming out of the canvas. -Wikipedia There are times I purposely create a mistake in order to show students how to recover from any painting mistakes that may occur during their artistic journey! This beautiful painting allows students to explore personal creativity-- no two wreathes will be the same! I encourage students to make personal color choices to create an art piece unique to themselves.

6x6 inch canvas panel or 6x6x1 (sometimes comes in 1.5) inch wrapped canvas for this project. (We will be using quite a bit of paint, so I do not recommend a large canvas) ***In this class we will need a smooth flat surface as a palette in order to mix the paint properly. Paper plates can work as long as they are not Styrofoam. Nothing porous.*** Yellow, blue, and Red *HEAVY BODY* Acrylic paint White regular fluid acrylic paint Brushes: 1 1 inch flat brush for background 1 painting knife (Can come in plastic. Picture for specific head included in attachment for class) Water jar Paper Towel *safe place to splash some paint!

My name is Tabitha, but most kids refer to me as Miss T.
I am looking forward to teaching young people how painting is unique to themselves as individuals, and that life lessons can stem from learning any kind of creative outlet. I personally believe that anyone can create artwork-- it just needs to be cultivated!
I was a studio art teacher for nearly 3 years having taught painting lessons to large groups of children as young as 3 years old to young adults 19+. I understand how to navigate through the discouragement that youths often feel when their art piece does not resemble someone else's that they deem "better," and teach them to see beyond the artwork and look at their own special skills and techniques.
In college I learned that history and science have big part to play in the art world therefore, I enjoy sprinkling "golden nuggets" of grammar and word origins into my art lessons.
In my spare time I think, read classic literature & children's fantasy books, draw & paint, go for walks, and plot novels.
