Ni Hao! Join me for a celebration of the famous Dragon Boat Festival which is approx 2400 years old! I can’t wait to meet your learners during class and explore more about this exciting holiday full of bright colors, sights and sounds! How did the tradition of dragon boating begin? Who is Qu Yuan? Why is there a drummer on dragon boats? Why do people throw rice dumplings into the water? What do people love to eat around this festival? What do children wear around their necks? How much time do kids get off of school to celebrate? All of these intriguing questions and more will be answered during class. I will also be sharing how some of my elementary age friends in China personally say that they love to celebrate this holiday. During class students will be able to color their own traditional dragon boat which they can then cut out afterwards and stand up. Students will be given innovative ideas on how to make their dragon boat into a fun 3D creation if they wish. (Students will also be able to access a fun dragon boat coloring page if they wish to do that instead of the craft.) We will also be watching a short video from the Smithsonian Museum of Asian Art of a traditional Dragon Boat Race and reading a story that covers the history of this festival. Students will be asked to pay attention to fun facts that they can teach their grown ups after class! At the end of class students will be able to practice a traditional Chinese saying that people use to wish peace and health to friends and family during this special holiday. Chinese holidays are very close to my heart. The Chinese side of my family loves to celebrate these amazing holidays and I can’t wait to share my personal experiences with you. Dragon boat festival is one of my favorite holidays and I have been dragon boating on a team for many, many years. My classes are relaxed and fun! Students are able to participate as much or as little as they like. We do cover a lot of information in this class so get ready to learn! * Please note that this craft may need to be finished after class depending on the independence level of your student.

Welcome!
When students are interested in what they are doing, learning they will WANT to learn! I hope that your students will love to learn and become lifelong learners. I want all children to feel comfortable, engaged, encouraged and have fun in my classes I have worked with students from ages 0-14 for over 20 years. I have held several other jobs than teaching which I adored but at this point this is my passion.
My teaching experience comes from multiple sources. Online I have taught thousands of children overseas to learn English through VIPKid. VIPKid (now VIPTeacher) is known for their vigorous standards and training. I have also taught for an elite online program, called Synthesis. Synthesis is an elite program created by the one of the founders of Ad Astra. (Ad Astra is the school that Elon Musk created at SpaceX.) I have also taught thousands of children right here on Outschool since 2020.
Offline teaching experience comes from teaching at a Montessori pre-school, teaching swim and gym classes, summer camps and Sunday school. I also have taught students with a wide range of mental and physical abilities. All students are welcome in my classes and I am willing to make accommodations if requested.
My education consists of a BA in psychology, a BA in Conflict Resolution, TESL, TEOFL, over 40 online teaching certificates, mental health first aid certification, and palliative care certification.
I have two children who are everything to me. I homeschool them and we love going on adventures together. In my spare time I love travelling, baking, camping, Disney, swimming, the beach, water activities, working out, reading and all things full of sparkle and glitter! You can always find me taking a course or earning some kind of certificate.
