Welcome to Campaign of Eras, a real-play Dungeons & Dragons (D&D) class for beginner to confident beginner players. In this class, learners will play a real and full D&D campaign using characters they’ve created (with my help, as needed). Dungeons & Dragons is a fantasy tabletop roleplaying game, where players engage with unique stories, explore fantastical worlds, discover new talents, and, most of all, have fun with other people. D&D offers a variety of opportunities for creative exploration, social growth, and general skill development that will benefit learners in many areas of life. In this class, learners will: - Learn the basic gameplay and rules for D&D - Learn how to create characters and character backgrounds - Learn and practice roleplaying, improv, and basic acting - Engage with storytelling and imaginative thinking - Engage in and practice problem solving and critical thinking - Engage in and practice teamwork, cooperation, and leadership skills - Engage in and practice appropriate social skills - Practice creative thinking - Practice basic math (addition and subtraction) - Occasionally, students will also learn spelling (due to side conversations in the class chat) and general information as D&D offers many opportunities for exploration beyond the game. - Students will also gain knowledge of fantasy lore, creatures, and worlds from the various content created for D&D Campaign of Eras is a homebrew (as in created by me, rather than premade) D&D campaign that will progress based on the actions and choices of the learners in each session. As the story unfolds, it will become crafted to the individual characters created by the learners – meaning the story will be unique to the learners in that class. THE STORY Campaign of Eras will follow the path of a party of adventurers from the Grand Adventurers Guild (jokingly known as GAG for short). Set in the fantasy world of Karthiir, the campaign will send the adventurers on a number of quests in search of a solution to a puzzling problem. While time travel is not involved, players will be exploring in worlds where the past had come to the present and things aren’t as they should be. Can this party of adventurers find the source of the timeline chaos? Will they be able to stop whatever strange forces are at work? CLASS OUTLINE This class is LEARNER LED in that the story of the campaign, and therefore the game, will progress based on the actions and choices of the learners as they play. As such, there is no official topic schedule for each class. Week 1 (Week of September 11th): Character Building - learners will create the characters they will play as Week 2 (Week of September 18th): Adventurers Guild Assignment – the party of adventurers will receive their initial quest from the Grand Adventurers Guild that will start the story. Week 3 and beyond (Week of September 25th and beyond): The learners will progress through the story until they reach the conclusion of the campaign. At the conclusion of this campaign, play will continue with a new campaign and learners will be able to continue with their current characters or create new characters. D&D is often a continuous game where campaigns may end but players can continue with a new quest, new story, etc. Players often connect with their fellow players and that bond carries over into the game and the characters, much as it does in fantasy tales of old. ABSENCES & REFUNDS If a learner is absent for a class/session, there are two options: 1. The learner will receive a side quest activity related to the current class that they can complete in their own time before the next class. This “while you were gone” activity would connect back to the current goings on in the game and would keep the learner connected to the game even while they are absent. 2. The learner opts out of the “while you were gone” activity and simply misses the class. Classes are rarely cancelled. A class cancellation will occur if too many learners will be absent, and I am made aware of it in advance of 24 hours before the class. If there are many absences but not enough to warrant cancellation, the main story will pause for that class and the learners who are present will engage in a “one shot” story. A “one shot” is a mini, side-quest style campaign that can be played in a single class session and is a great way to engage players in continued roleplay while taking a break from the main campaign. Refunds will be issued for the following situations: 1. A learner will be absent and has provided notice in advance of 24 hours before the class, and has not requested a “while you were gone” activity 2. A class is cancelled due to not enough learners being present for the class, and it is known in advance of 24 hours before the class 3. A class is cancelled by the teacher, regardless of when that cancellation occurs. Refunds will NOT be issued for the following: 1. A learner is absent without notice, or without notice in advance of 24 hours before the class 2. A learner is absent but requests a “while you were gone” activity. These activities are included in the price and do require time on my part to fulfill. CLASS REQUIREMENTS Students will be provided with the following: - A character sheet in fillable and printable PDF format - A link to the D&D wiki website that will be used for character creation and character leveling Students will need the following: - Dice or a dice rolling app. The dice needed are: d20, d12, d10, d8, d6, d4 (the numbers indicate the number of sides on the dice – so a d20 is a 20-sided die) - Pencil and eraser This campaign is designed for beginner players – first time players with no experience to players who have played only a few times. This class is intended for players to be able to ask questions and make mistakes as they learn the ins and outs of playing D&D. In this class, there are no stupid questions, and everyone is learning. IN CLASS MATERIALS - We will be using the Dungeons & Dragons 5th Edition content, which includes: the Player’s Handbook, the Monster Manual, various expansions, and additional content which is available online. Students DO NOT need to have these items – this is just for reference; however, they are more than welcome to get them if they choose. - We will be referring to the D&D wiki website for character specific content - Google will be used to look up things on occasion relating to D&D content - I will be using PowerPoint slides through screen share to provide learners with an immersive experience – maps, images of monsters and other combatants, location scenery, etc. - I will be using Dungeon Alchemist through screen share for some maps and locations as part of the immersive storytelling D&D is a gaming environment that welcomes the silly, creative, and chaotic. It’s a place where players can be themselves or be someone else, where they can use voices, dress up, and be imaginative. In my classroom, we are welcoming and supportive. I allow learners to find their comfort zone while inviting them to step out of it when they feel inspired. I lead by example, getting into the roleplay of the game with my own strange voices and goofy behavior. Overall, I promote kindness in my classroom. This is supposed to be a fun class where everyone is having a good time and making friends. D&D is for EVERYONE! I do my best to accommodate any learning needs or supports for my learners – please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions.

D&D is entirely fictional. However, it does contain instances of fictional magic, monsters, and intense situations that may not be suitable for all players. To familarize yourself with potential content, you can review the various player guides available for D&D 5e.
