This course is excellent for any math student who will soon be taking an Algebra 2, Trigonometry, or PreCalculus course and either wants to review the Unit Circle or learn it from scratch. In this three-day camp course, I will guide you through making and understanding your own unit circle to use as an aide in your study of trigonometry. Students will learn how the Unit Circle, as it pertains to trigonometry, is formed, and they will become more proficient at using it to find exact values of the six trigonometric functions, through their own copy as well as from memory. During Day 1, I will help you create a first draft of your own Unit Circle, labeling all of the special angles within one complete rotation of the circle. I'll provide a few very specific notes for you to copy to help you understand what you are doing. On Day 2, I will help you complete your notes and your Unit Circle draft by showing you where to place appropriate coordinates on it. By now, you will probably have begun to memorize parts of it simply by working with it. Day 3 will be spent becoming more proficient with using the Unit Circle, both from your circle and from memory, to find the values of the six trigonometric functions. I am excited about this opportunity to challenge you and help you learn something that can make your future work with trigonometry more enjoyable!
*Materials will be posted upon enrollment. Students will need a pencil and eraser and should download and print the following before the first day of class: 1. Three copies of the blank Unit Circle, 2. One copy of the sine, cosine, and tangent of special angles worksheet, and 3. One copy of the reciprocal functions of special angles worksheet.
