We will be going through the requirements to earn the bug badge for brownies. Through guidance and the use of live bugs, we will discuss the differences between bugs and spiders and the different parts. We will also observe behaviors and different habitats bugs live in. We will be making a detailed poster and will be decorating rocks, pumpkins or shells as part of the craft requirement. Additionally, we can observe bug homes, a wasp hive and discuss how to create your own bug home. We will finish with some citizen science projects and go on a virtual bug hunt.

I am a former zookeeper and educator for over 10 years. I have taught all grade levels, scouts, adults, homeschool and other special interest groups. I currently teach mostly bug-based classes as Kim’s Critter Classes for homeschool and scout groups.
My classes are discussion based where the students lead the learning within the topic of the class. I include both biofacts and live animals and insects in my classes and try to incorporate a craft or game with every lesson.
I have hand-raised kangaroos, binturongs, aardvarks and other animals that are in zoos across the country. I have also presented animals on tour with Jack Hanna.
