There is no prerequisite requirement for this class.

My mother taught me to be a reader.  She was sneaky about it.  She shared snippets of wonderful stories, she would see me and say, "Oh, let me read this to you."  More than that she showed me how stories and books were a way to escape to a new and exciting place while staying right where you were by loving to read herself. 

This early experience truly informs the books I choose for my young readers.  I want the books to fire their minds, I want them to touch their hearts.  Reading a book is starting a conversation with a person you've never met and truly hearing them.  I want to build lovers of reading not just hit that magical 30 minute reading time.

The Details
As a single class, this book is a classic tale of a new teacher who opens the eyes of the entire community. As a student, it inspires us to being willing to learn things that are entirely new, and as a teacher, it inspires me to think outside of the box.  This one is special to me, as I read it as a young homeschooling mother and it shaped much of how I taught my girls. As part of the five-part series, this class provides the building blocks for an entire semester of wonderful reading.  

Every week the student will need to complete the reading and the Discussion Questions to be ready for the following week's class.  There is no homework to hand-in.

Assignments by week
Class #1 - No assignments due at first class.  This will be an introduction to the book, vocabulary to watch for, an overview of the discussion questions and we might even do a little reading.
