We will be reading small portions of 4 different books! Judy Blume's: “Are you there, God? It’s me, Margaret”; Louise Gornall: Under Rose-Tainted Skies, Tim Green: Left Out, and Cynthia Lord: Rules. After each book we will have a short discussion. We will discuss different topics based on each book. This class will help students with reading comprehension and critical thinking skills. We will also take the time to go over any difficult or uncommon words to find their true meaning. We...
This class will help students with reading comprehension and critical thinking skills.
Some of these stories may contain sensitive topics. If these topics are brought up by the student I will encourage them to discuss it with their parents. If a student brings up an issue during class I will acknowledge their statement and suggest they speak to their parent/guardian about it in full detail. This is why I also strongly suggest parents read the books their child is reading.

Students will receive their own Personalized Reading Journal from me upon enrollment.

These books are generally recommended for students in 7th (12 years old and older) and up, as there are some topics that some children aren't quite ready to read about. I encourage parents to read these books as any “hot-topic” situations will not be discussed in class. If there are any questions regarding such topics, students will be encouraged to talk with their parents.
