Hello! Welcome to the Black Girl Book Study Book Club for Little Readers. This Book Club was inspired by the works of Miss Marley Dias, a Black American activist and writer who launched a campaign called #1000BlackGirlBooks in 2015. Her mission? To collect 1,000 books with Black female protagonists to donate for black girls at other schools. Since launching her campaign, Marley has published her own writing, an empowerment read entitled, "Marley Dias Get It Done and So Can You". The books...
Politically and culturally sensitive topics will be discussed during certain readings, with some topics being heavier than others. Because of the age range, readings are generally light-hearted and fun, but should tough moments arise, the course educator has undergone significant Diversity, Inclusion and Sensitivity trainings to properly support students in understanding and processing this information. Sessions where tough topics will emerge will be preceded by a content warning.
