Welcome to our Beginning Phonics class! This will be a gentle review or introduction to basic phonics patterns.  It will work best for children who are familiar with their ABCs. We will review the individual letters that comprise the letter patterns for the week, then look at the letter combination. Original songs or songs from Carson-Dellosa’s Big Book of Phonics will help us remember the week’s phonics concept. Next, we will decode words that contain those patterns. Students will practice reading the words in a short original story as a group to build fluency.  We will also use the words to complete sentences, crosswords, and play other word games together. Throughout the class, students will be able to read the words more and more quickly. Then we will finish with a sight word cheer to celebrate the new words we can read.   

Since this is an ongoing class, students may come every week to learn a new phonics pattern.  Children can join at any time or skip a week if needed.  These are the sight words that will be covered each week:
