Remember that progress in learning a musical instrument takes time and dedication. It's essential to stay patient, persistent, and enthusiastic about your brass instrument journey. 

1. Technical Proficiency:
- Develop proper embouchure and breath control.
- Learn to produce a clear and consistent tone.
- Master basic playing techniques such as tonguing, slurring, and articulation.
- Build finger dexterity and slide/tuning slide control (for instruments like the trombone).

2. Scales and Arpeggios:
- Learn major and minor scales and arpeggios in various keys.
- Develop fluency in playing scales and arpeggios to improve finger and tongue coordination.

3. Repertoire Mastery:
- Study and perform a variety of musical pieces, including etudes and solo works.
- Focus on pieces that challenge your technical and musical abilities.

4. Sight-Reading Skills:
- Improve your ability to read sheet music on sight.
- Practice sight-reading exercises regularly to enhance your musical literacy.

5. Goal Setting and Practice Routine:
- Set specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound (SMART) goals for your brass playing.
- Establish a regular practice routine that focuses on achieving these goals.

I have taught beginning, intermediate, and advanced band for 9 years in Arkansas, New Jersey, and Connecticut. While my primary instrument is Tuba, I have experience teaching all brass instruments to any age level. I understand what is takes to get a beginner started on an instrument while also understanding how to get an advanced musician to that next level!
