Looking to become a super summarizer? This is the place to be! We will use high-quality, engaging picture books to practice our summarizing skills in this ongoing course. Each week, we will read a new story, and then practice using the format "Somebody - Wanted - But - So - Then - Finally" to write a summary of the text. Your child will practice determining importance to pick out the most important information from the story. Then students will use a graphic organizer to write a paragraph-long summary. Hello! My name is Jessica McGinn and I am so excited to meet your child! I graduated in 2008 with my Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education, and I hold an Elementary Ed teaching certificate in the state of Florida. I have 10 years of experience as a classroom teacher, where I have taught first through fourth grade. I have also taught English online to children age 4 to 14! I am passionate about teaching and about learning, and I especially love to teach reading!
I believe that all children CAN love to read. Some just haven’t found the right book yet! I hope to inspire children to want to read more, all while teaching them important reading comprehension and writing skills.
I live in sunny Florida with my husband, my two daughters, Ella and Ruthie and our dog, Buddy.
