Students will learn the basic compounds of chemicals and why they react with one another, Specifically, we will examine the components of acids and bases. Our examples for this class will be vinegar, acetone, foam, and baking soda. Through observation, students will learn how to fill out a lab observation report and basic rules for lab safety. They will be able to define what a chemical is and why it matters to science. Students will be able to explain why chemicals react with one another.
Science has always been a passion of mine. I enjoy everything about it. I have taught science to students of varying age groups for the last ten years, on and off.
Teacher will provide a chemical reactions and lab observation worksheet. Students will need pens or pencils and extra paper if they wish to take notes. Notes are not required. Students may purchase items for the experiments to perform at home with the teacher, but are NOT required to do so. If so desired, the items for the experiments are as follows: Experiment one: Baking soda vinegar clear container such as a bowl or mason jar Food coloring (optional) Experiment two: Acetone Foam cup large bowl, preferably clear Safety requirements: gloves goggles
