Jean-Michel Basquiat started as a teenage, homeless graffiti writer and went on to become one of the most famous artists of the past 50 years. One of his paintings recently sold for $110,000,000! The class will be a lecture/slide show on his exciting journey to the top of the art world. We will also look at dozens of his paintings and discuss the style, composition, colors and influence. There will be plenty of opportunities for students to ask questions and comment about the art work. As...
I have a a bachelor's degree and credential to teach high school, a Master of Education degree, and have taught various classes involving the examination of similar topics at the college level. This type of art has been a life long hobby/passion of mine - I have personally attended 6-7 Basquiat exhibits and own a dozen of his books (the first one a Christmas gift when I was 14) and I plan to use the skills I have in teaching and my vast knowledge of the subject matter to create an interesting and engaging class!
Children will be creating a piece of art. The will need paper (the bigger the better) and various colors of markers.
