"Myths aren't stories that are untrue, rather they are tales that do not fit neatly into the historical record, yet which serve as a foundation to a culture."

Calling all aspiring historians, story-tellers, and lovers of story! I need your help as we map out the ancient wonders of the world after examining the myths behind them. This club cycles through different ancient mythologies and reviews their stories, sorting out 'recorded history' (archaeologically and historically backed) from myth. Moreover, we'll get to the root of what these stories tell us about humanity and why they matter.

Every class begins with a 15-20 minute discussion about a particular story or 'event' and then we venture to Minecraft worlds where we explore its depiction. In game the class will either reenact the story with their peers, solve puzzles, explore ancient wonders of the world, or engage in build challenges that actively test their knowledge.

In this class you will become familiar with architecture styles of these ancient cultures and connect their stories with their beloved, modern interpretations (you're welcome Marvel!). You will never forget these experiences as you engage with the very world you're learning about, experiencing a wealth of exciting games, challenges, and re-enactments. Each mythology (Chinese, Greek, Norse and Egyptian) will be featured in 1-2 month segments, starting with Greek Mythology in Nov-Dec, then moving on to Norse, Egyptian, and then Chinese.

NOTE ABOUT MINECRAFT: There are two versions of Minecraft that run on different code: Java (PC, Mac, Linux) and Bedrock. This class uses Bedrock, and is compatible with the following devices: PC with Windows 10, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, PS4, PS5, phone or tablet version. THIS IS NOT A MINECRAFT JAVA CLASS! Please make sure your child has online-play enabled with their Microsoft account, including Nintendo Switch Online, Xbox Live Gold, and PlayStation® Plus subscriptions for their respective device. I will give more detailed instructions about friending me and joining class upon registering.
