In this lighthearted class, learners will suggest words using specific parts of speech and collaborate to discover great ways to write a silly story. Setting topics will rotate; keeping it fresh for ongoing learners, but also nice for a drop-in, drop-out class. The teacher will: * Review parts of speech (noun, verb, adjective, adverb) I * Introduce discussions about the setting. * Assist with spelling, grammar, etc, * Facilitate random selection of words to use in the story The learners will: * Offer suggestions for words in each category * Verbalize, chat, or annotate their selections in the Zoom call * Help other learners, when asked, to brainstorm * Suggest a personalized ending to each week's story * Illustrate and complete the story to share after class (optional) Topics will rotate to feature different settings weekly: Week of December 2: The Forest Week of December 9: The Classroom Week of December 16: The North Pole Week of December 23: Candy Land Week of December 30: The Big City Week of January 6: The Pirate Ship Week of January 13: The Dinosaur Park Week of January 20: The Medieval Castle Week of January 27: The Beach Week of February 3: The Cave Week of February 10: The Park Week of February 17: Ancient Egypt Week of February 24: The Desert Week of March 3: China Week of March 10: The Swamp Week of March 17: Underground Week of March 24: The River Week of March 31: The Campground Week of April 7: The Arcade Week of April 14: Outer Space Week of April 21: The Zoo Week of April 28: The Farm Week of May 5: The Jungle Week of May 12: The Glacier Week of May 19: The Ocean Week of May 26: The Savannah Week of June 2: The Neighborhood Week of June 9: The Office Building Week of June 16: Candy Land Week of June 23: The Rodeo Week of October 20: The Pumpkin Patch Week of October 27: The Haunted House It helps if learners are already be able to write (or type), but not necessary. Learners are welcome to bring something to write/draw and/or color with (type on) to class, but writing is not necessary during class. Learners will be able to annotate directly on the class slides, and it would be helpful to know how to do so. Learners who cannot write are welcome to contribute verbally to the class! They should also bring their imagination. A sense of humor doesn't hurt, either!

Students will practice writing thoughts into whole sentences, and move beyond simple subject, verb, object into using describing words. Learners will also practice determining and categorizing various parts of speech.

Learners do not need to be able to write (or type), but should bring their imaginations and sense of humor. Learners who know how are encouraged to type answers in the chat or directly use Zoom "annotate" on the slides to fill in the words. Otherwise, the teacher can type for them.
