Structured literacy approaches emphasize highly explicit and systematic teaching of all essential literacy components. These components include foundational skills (e.g., decoding, spelling) and higher-level literacy skills (e.g., reading comprehension, vocabulary, written expression). This approach is based on decades of research known as The Science of Reading (SOR), which examines how the brain best learns to read. 

I use a structured literacy approach at Read with Leanne to teach children how to read. Reading should be an enjoyable experience, not a chore. That's why I make sure all my students learn to read with excitement and joy. 

My structured literacy program begins with an initial consultation to determine each student's reading level. From there, I create an individualized learning plan for each child to unlock the keys to the reading kingdom. This plan follows a systematic and explicit path, teaching phonics patterns, heart "memory" words or word parts, and using decodable stories featuring The Superkids - a relatable group of lively characters that students love and The Secret Stories- the brain's shortcut to learning the English phonics code. 

My courses' length varies depending on grade level - Kindergarten consists of 24 units, 1st grade has 16 units, and 2nd grade has 16 units. However, the time it takes for each student to complete a level may vary based on their progress and time spent working on course material between classes. 

As an educator, I am dedicated to providing my students with immediate feedback and positive reinforcement. Parents are informed of their child's progress and I provide tips for supporting their learning at home.
