In this class, students will learn how to write algebraic expressions from verbal phrases. Also, take verbal phrases and write variable/algebraic expressions. The students will be given definitions of all items pertaining to algebraic expressions and will be instructed step-by-step in the process of writing them. Word problems are difficult as is, but incorporating a variable of unknown value makes them even more difficult. The teacher will give definitions, key words, and problems for each type of expression. The teacher and students will then work together writing expressions from verbal phrases. The teacher will present verbal phrases to the students to write independently. The interaction between teacher and student is constant during this class. This class is interactive, hands-on, auditory, and visual. Students are encouraged to ask questions.

I have been a teacher, substitute teacher, instructional support, lead teacher in a childcare facility, volunteer, and tutor. I have my Associates of Science in Office Information Systems, Bachelors of Science in Psychology, and Master of Education Degree (PK-8), and I have also been fortunate to work with students who were high schoolers, special needs, and homebound.
In my class, your student will use their prior knowledge, share ideas, participate through discussion to help develop their academic and social skills. I look forward to getting to know your student and learn how they learn to better support them in their success in school.
