수업 경험

The goal of this class is for students to improve their skills in the Hebrew language with a focus on reading, reading comprehension, and conversation.
I have been teaching Hebrew Reading and Language for over 15 years and on Outschool since 2018. I hold a Masters in Jewish Education as well as in Educational Leadership. My graduate coursework included advanced Hebrew studies, curriculum development, teaching methodologies, and student development theories. I have taught this material to students from two to adult and have specifically developed all my courses for age appropriateness, the online learning environment, and student success.
The Phonics Readers provided will be shared on-screen during class, but students are encouraged to print it out prior to class. A pencil or pen is also recommended.

For certain learning topics, students may be asked to bring in common items (family picture, their favorite book, etc.) These requests will be posted in the classroom during the appropriate week.
This course, along with all my Hebrew courses, is taught from a secular and academic perspective. Parents should note that the phonics readers were all created by me and are secular, however, Hebrew is the official language of Israel and of the Jewish religion and as such conversations can sometimes touch on things like Jewish holidays, life in Israel, etc.

Parents should be aware that Hebrew is a gendered language and that there is no accepted terminology in use for individuals who prefer they/them pronouns. In Hebrew, They/Them has two forms: one for a group of men or a mixed gendered group and one for a group of women. Additionally, using plural terms for one individual in a language that is new for students may lead to additional confusion Traditionally, when gender is unknown (such as asking, “Who lives in the house?”) it defaults to masculine singular. Students who are interested in taking this class or parents of those students that prefer they/them pronouns should reach out to me to determine what they would prefer to use in the context of this class.
The Phonics Readers were all originally created by me (Doron Vergun) utilizing vocabulary as taught in my previous courses. Those courses utilize the Hakol Chadash Aleph textbook and the Chaverim B’Ivrit 1 textbook and workbook.
