The Harry Potter Series is a fun series to enjoy or get your kiddos to learn to enjoy reading. It's a nice bonus that after reading the book you can extend the learning by watching the movie and doing compare and contrast exercise that doesn't even feel like work! Talk about getting your kiddos into it, if they aren't already. This is an advanced novel study. I realize the grade/age level reading is average, but the curriculum I developed and use is more than just a novel study. It focuses on a complete ELA learning method. Vocabulary development, reading comprehension that includes activities WHILE reading or listening, figurative language practice, writing prompt practice, and real-world connections. 1st week: Read and complete assigned work for Chapters 1 & 2 Vocabulary Practice & Quiz Figurative Language Practice Reading Comprehension Questions Writing Prompt Options 2nd week: Read and complete assigned work for Chapters 3 & 4 Vocabulary Practice & Quiz Figurative Language Practice Reading Comprehension Questions Writing Prompt Options 3rd week: Read and complete assigned work for Chapters 5 & 6 Vocabulary Practice & Quiz Figurative Language Practice Reading Comprehension Questions Writing Prompt Options 4th week: Read and complete assigned work for Chapters 7 & 8 Vocabulary Practice & Quiz Figurative Language Practice Reading Comprehension Questions Writing Prompt Options 5th week: Read and complete assigned work for Chapters 9 & 10 Vocabulary Practice & Quiz Figurative Language Practice Reading Comprehension Questions Writing Prompt Options 6th week: Read and complete assigned work for Chapters 11 & 12 Vocabulary Practice & Quiz Figurative Language Practice Reading Comprehension Questions Writing Prompt Options 7th week: Read and complete assigned work for Chapters 13, 14, 15 Vocabulary Practice & Quiz Figurative Language Practice Reading Comprehension Questions Writing Prompt Options 8th week: Read and complete assigned work for Chapters 16 & 17 Vocabulary Practice & Quiz Figurative Language Practice Reading Comprehension Questions Writing Prompt Options Vocabulary practice and reading comprehension questions will be in the form of actual practice, games, and competitions. There will be discussion in class as well, so any reading not completed is homework. The bulk of the work is independent. We will review material together, but any quizzes will be completed independently. A review of all quizzes will be provided. If the class is too wrapped up in discussion, I will record a video to review the answers.

There are websites we will use: vocabulary.com (please create a student account before class - it's free), quiz.org (I will provide a class code, so students and parents can see the quiz results), and Kahoot will be used as well. Printing out the weekly curriculum is highly encouraged. However, it is not required.

I have used this curriculum to teach this novel. I do identify characters as "bullies". I do not address or encourage any real magical application as I am a Christian and do not support the use of magic. However, it is a great piece of literature and so much fun can be enjoyed with it. 리뷰
