::::::::::::::::::::::::::: What will be taught? ::::::::::::::::::::::::::: Wk 1 Introduction to Japanese Language and Writing Systems, Hiragana A and Ka Lines Wk 2 Hiragana Sa and Ta Lines, Different Sounds Wk 3 Hiragana Na Line and Greetings Wk 4 Preference and Review of the first half of hiragana Wk 5 Hiragana Ha and Ma Lines, Grade Levels and Schools Wk 6 Hiragana Ya and Ra Lines, Languages and Nationalities Wk 7 The last few hiragana and Numbers Wk 8 The Long Self-Introduction Presentation and Class Wrap-Up Review Games ::::::::::::::::::::::::::: How is your class structured? ::::::::::::::::::::::::::: We will meet in zoom for 30 minutes twice a week. The first meeting of the week will be conducted with expectations of students having studied the vocabulary, so we can practice the applications of the newly introduced material. Second meeting of the week will be conducted with more in-depth application of the new material and speaking practice with classmates or with myself (depending on the number of enrollment). ::::::::::::::::::::::::::: How will you teach? ::::::::::::::::::::::::::: On zoom through Outschool platform. External resources such as Quizlet for vocabulary decks, and Gimkit for reviews. ::::::::::::::::::::::::::: What's your teaching style? ::::::::::::::::::::::::::: Easy-going, but perhaps because of the subject I teach, most students are really respectful, which I truly appreciate. ::::::::::::::::::::::::::: How much will learners get to interact with you and each other (mention specifics like: lecture, games, slides, video clips, discussion)? ::::::::::::::::::::::::::: Learning a foreign language is all about interaction!! There will be interactive class activities for informal assessments. Pair activities/assignments are designed to develop each student's 21st century skills such as collaboration, communication, creativity, and critical thinking. Please note that the game portion of the class requires the student to click on a link from Gimkit which I will provide in the class for the students to participate on screen. It is an approved third party learning tool.
Quizlet is a website that allows for students and educators to make and use digital flashcards.
Students DO NEED a (free) personal account for the use of Quizlet for outside of class.
Students will need to provide their username on Quizlet to have access to all of my flashcards outside of class.
Please do not send your personal e-mail address.
I offer students to study vocabulary outside of class by accessing Quizlet cards that I have created specific to my classes.
