Common Core State Standards (CCSS)에 맞춰짐
12 lessons//3 Weeks
 Week 1
Lesson 1
House Design - Find the Perimeter and Area of Shapes
This lesson uses a floor plan design project to review perimeter, area, and basic multiplication skills. Students will work on individual projects to create their dream house design. They will calculate the area and perimeter of their decor in order to fit their dream design into the given square footage. This project will also allow us to review and contextualize various multiplication skills, measurements (mm, cm, in, ft, yds)
Lesson 2
The Mystery Box - A Magical Lesson All About Volume
This lesson uses a story about a mystery package to teach the concept of volume. Students will use the volume formula to measure the volume of different 3D shapes. This lesson reviews the different between 1D, 2D, and 3D. It shows students the different between volume, area, and perimeter. Students will complete a project that helps them visualize volume while they calculate the answer.
Lesson 3
Decimal Bakery - Day 1
This lesson will use a project about a fictional bakery to review decimals, place value, and money! Students will learn about all the different kinds of coins and bills, and use their knowledge of place value to review adding and subtracting decimals.
Lesson 4
Decimal Bakery - Day 2
This lesson will use a project about a fictional bakery to review multiplying decimals. They will be reminded of grams and kilograms as units of measurement, then use decimal multiplication, addition, and subtraction to calculate the ingredients needed for different recipes.
 Week 2
Lesson 5
Divide and Conquer - Day 1
This relay race uses various word problems to encourage students to use their division skills. They will be reminded of 3 strategies they can use to solve division problems. Then they will be challenged to a series of division games with their teammates.
Lesson 6
Divide and Conquer - Day 2
This division review day is designed as an escape room. To complete the room, students have to use the division algorithm to divide 2 digit numbers by 1 and 2 digit numbers. Students will work with a partner to complete a series of division games and try to escape before the time is up.
Lesson 7
Angle Dress Designs
Students will create various angles to design ballgown dresses. They will learn to measure angles, identify different kinds of angles, and draw angles at various degrees. They will complete a project with 6 different dress designs - all using different kinds of angles they draw themselves.
Lesson 8
Charts, Graphs, and Graphing Stuff We Like
Students will dive into a research project of their choosing and create various visualizations of their data. Students will be able to choose any topic they are interested in and coached on ways to gather numbers and data related to their topic. They will then be introduced to various kinds of charts and graphs (pie chart, line graph, bar graph, scatter plot). They will decide which visualization will best fit their data and be tasked with collecting their data as homework.
 Week 3
Lesson 9
Charts, Graphs, and Graphing Stuff We Like
Students will create their chosen charts or graphs using the numbers they collected overnight. They will have a chance to review each others graphs and charts and discuss how they might improve or scale up their projects moving foward.
Lesson 10
Coordinate Planes
Students will be introduced to coordinate planes and practice plotting various numbers on the x and y axis. They will be able to create maps for each other with various coordinates to find buried treasure.
Lesson 11
Coordinate Planes
Students will use their knowledge of coordinate planes to draw a picture using coordinates.
Lesson 12
Positive & Negative Integers
Students will be introduced to positive and negative integers in a variety of scenarious. We will discuss how positive and negative integers fit on a number line, how they fit into our colloquial use of numbers (rating various memes on a scale of -100 to 100) and how they are used in banking.
  • Students will understand the different in place value for the hundreds, tens, ones, tenths, and hundredths place. They will see that each place value represents x10 or /10. Students will be able to remember and use the area and perimeter formula to accurately identify the area and perimeter of quadrilaterals. Students will be able to add, subtract, and multiply decimal numbers up to the hundredths place. Students will be familiar with U.S. money and currency value, including pennies, nickels, dimes, quarters, and dollars. They will be able to connect the currency to the decimal value. Students will be able to find the volume of a cube using the volume formula Students will be able to use the algorithm to complete division and multiplication problems. Students will be familiar with various forms of measurements (feet, inches, millimeters, centimeters, yards, and squared measurements) and what they represent Students will be able to identify various kinds of graphs and charts, and use them to visualize data Students will understand the basics of graphing on coordinate planes, including identify the X and Y axis Students will be able to measuring and drawing various kinds of angles, including right angles, obtuse angles, and acute angles. Students will be able to identify positive and negative integers on a number line and show how positive and negative integers are used in every day life.
