미국 3 학년
In this 7-week course students will learn about verbs, how-to paragraphs and narrative writing. The teacher will use slide shows, games, songs, worksheets and graphic organizers to facilitate learning. The teacher will follow the schedule below:

Week 1

Day 1- Grammar-Students will learn about action verbs and how to identify them in a sentence. Writing-The teacher will review how to write a paragraph using a hamburger graphic organizer to discuss the main parts of a paragraph. Students will learn about the topic sentence, details and closing sentence.

Day 2-Grammar-Students will continue to learn about action verbs. Writing-We will begin discussing how to write a how-to paragraph. The teacher will construct a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. During this time, we will discuss and write down each step of making a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. We will discuss time order words that will help our readers understand a clear order when learning how to do something new.

Week 2

Day 3-Grammar-Linking Verbs will be our topic of study on day 3. Writing-Students will pick a topic to write their how-to paragraph about and begin filling in a graphic organizer to help them keep their ideas in sequential order.

Day 4-Grammar-We will work on main and helping verbs in this session. Writing-Students will begin writing their own paragraphs using what they have on their graphic organizers.

Week 3

Day 5-Grammar- We will review and continue learning about main and helping verbs. Writing-The teacher will share some additional how-to paragraphs and allow students to share their work and get some help from their teacher and peers.

Day 6-Grammar-Students will learn about past tense verbs. Writing-Students will be able to share their finished paragraphs. If students are open to the idea, we can share the finished paragraphs and attach them in the classroom, so that everyone can try to learn something new from their peers.

Week 4

Day 7-Grammar-We will learn about present tense verbs. Writing-We will begin Narrative Writing. We will discuss what a personal narrative is and how we pick a topic. Elements (setting, character, sequence of events, voice, details) of a personal narrative will also be taught during this session.

Day 8-Grammar-We will study future tense verbs. Writing-Students will learn about narrowing their personal narrative topics to a small moment instead of a big broad topic. Students will brainstorm ideas for their personal narratives and narrow them down to a small moment.

Week 5

Day 9-Grammar-Irregular verbs will be our topic of study. Writing-The instruction during this session will center around writing a strong beginning or hook. Students will write a hook for their personal narrative. We will discuss how to add dialogue to our narratives too.

Day 10-Grammar-We will continue learning about irregular verbs. Writing-We will discuss how to add dialogue to our narratives. Students will use their graphic organizer to outline the beginning, middle and end of their story.

Week 6

Day 11-Grammar-We will continue irregular verbs. Writing- We will focus on writing a reflective ending to our personal narrative. Students will write their rough draft of their personal narrative.

Day 12-Grammar-We will review the entire verbs unit. Writing-We will discuss word choice and replace some of our weak, overused words with strong, unique words to liven up our writing. Students will be able to ask for help revising their narratives and go through a checklist to see if their rough drafts follow all capitalization, punctuation, organization and spelling rules. Students will write their final draft for the next class.

Week 7

Day 13-Grammar-We will review all verbs and have a quiz on the last day. Writing-Students will be able to ask any final questions they have about their final draft of their personal narrative.

Day 14-Grammar- There will be a quiz over verbs. Writing-Students will be given the opportunity to share their final drafts.

***This is a basic outline that could vary depending on the class size and writing experience level.
