Welcome to Culture Corner Academy! The ULTIMATE interactive FLEX experience! Upon enrollment get access to our virtual school. Each week enter a different area of the school to learn your tasks for the week. All weeks are posted in the platform so you can work at your own pace. Work ahead, take your time, the choice is yours! We also will host fun interactive games and activities including: -Game of the Week in the Gym (GimKit, Kahoot, Blooket, etc) -Create Your Own Lunch Tray in the Cafeteria! (Virtual activity) -Decorate Your Desk -Read of the Week in the Libray Flexible Schedule Information : This flexible schedule class will mirror the live class offered with a few difference due to its flexible schedule. This class will be hosted by me on a various 3rd party sites to help build engagement through out the semester. The class will mainly be ran through an interactive site called Genially. Learners will then be able to self direct their learning by completing different tasks set out. Examples of these would be direct instruction/lecture (by me recorded with slides using Canva and ED puzzle), supplemental videos via Youtube or a other site, discussion questions which should be answered via the Outschool classroom, Warm Up/Ice Breaker Questions using Padlet. Account creation is not required for any of these 3rd party materials. Direct instruction lessons via Ed puzzle will contain check for understanding questions throughout. Weekly content will be updated at 9 AM EST every Monday. Join us this school year to build community in a small group while learning important Reading, Writing, Science, World History and Math skills! Our full curriculum course covers core subjects in a fun engaging way. At Culture Corner Academy your learner will learn a variety of subjects in a nonconventional way. From our ELA curriculum that stems around diversity to our Environmental Science Unit that explores the unknown of the ocean. We believe learning should be not only fun but engagingly rich with content. Our teachers are highly qualified to give your learner the ultimate homeschooling experience. Your learner will continuously learning information not found in the conventional classroom. Class structure will follow this schedule: Class Information: 🤎 Literature Never judge a book by its movie! In this class we take on books so amazing, they made a movie! Each month we will read 1 book in class and upon completion we will all watch their video productions (Parent permission will be required; an alternative will also be given to those not participating in the film screening). After the movie, students will participate in an open dialogue in Padlet or Jamboard comparing and contrasting both pieces. WEEK 1-4 : Because of Winn-Dixie by: Kate DiCamillo - (Candlewick, 2000) 182 pages. Film: Because of Winn-Dixie (2005) WEEK 4-8: Charlie and the Chocolate Factory by: Roald Dahl - (A.A. Knopf, 1964) 180 pages. Film: Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (1971) Week 8-16: Eloise: A Book for Precocious Grown-ups by: Kay Thompson, illustrated by: Hilary Knight - (Simon & Schuster Books for Young Readers, 1969) 68 pages. Film: Eloise at the Plaza and Eloise at Christmastime 🤎 Writing (with FEEDBACK) Students will learn about various topics, put them in action. Students will need a writing notebook for class. A grown up will also need to assist in writing submissions to the teacher for grammar/punctuation feedback. This class uses a platform called StoryJumper where students can become authors and put their work into physical and ebooks available for purchase with parent permission and assistance. Parents can purchase their child's books through their personal account so no information sharing will take place. The academy will be providing a gift card for learners to purchase one of their books. Week 1-8: -Learners will learn the basics and steps of Sentence Structure and Paragraph Writing over 8 weeks. We will be learning about different parts of speech and turning fragments into sentences. -Book Creation: All About Me Book Week 8-12: -Learners will be introduced to Narrative Writing with a goal of writing their own by the end of the month Book Creation: Narrative Week 12-16: -Learners will learn the 5 steps to creating a fairytale and putting them into action creating and writing their own Book Creation: Write your own fairytale 🤎 Math Week 1-4: Intro to Multiplication -Multiplication as equal groups -Multiplication on the number line -Multiplication as groups of objects -Multiplication with arrays -1-digit multiplication from 0-9 Week 4-8: Addition, Subtraction, and Estimation -Rounding to nearest 10 or 100 -Estimate to add multi-digit numbers -Strategies for adding two and three-digit numbers -Estimate to subtract multi-digit numbers -Strategies for subtracting two and three-digit numbers Week 8-12: Intro to Division -Division with groups of objects -Division with Arrays -Relating multiplication and division - Divide by 1, 2, and 4 -Divide by 5 or 10 -Divide by 3 or 6 🤎 History Students will learn about diverse heroes of different cultural backgrounds and their contributions to the world. Each week we will be highlighting new heroes. During the process of earning my graduate degree I have taken two elective math courses on ethnomathematics. I will be using the very textbook I learned with to create modified lesson plans that are age and grade level appropriate. I will also be utilizing my knowledge in world and minority histories to provide historical examples to students during our lessons. I have mentored over 200 teens over the past 6 years through my nonprofit on diversity and current events and continue to lead open group discussions regarding diversity and inclusion for individuals ages 5-18 as well as adults in a corporate setting. I have many years of experience facilitating difficult conversations regarding civil rights and African American History. I have been serving on the Women of Color Community Leadership Board for a Fortune 500 company in Diversified Outsourcing Services industry. This unique is group is a branch of their Diversity and Inclusion department. Through this position I have facilitated, created, and organized trainings on diversity and inclusion, anti racism, and holiday specific courses (history of MLK Day, Kwanzaa, Juneteenth, Indigenous Peoples' Day, and Black History Month) for the work place. In edition utilizing elective courses I have taken though my undergraduate and graduate degrees (World history, American history, North American Slavery) I also have extensively studied the books/textbooks for the purpose of teaching classes for school aged children for various non profit programs and after school organizations, and children on parents who are employed with above listed company as a company benefit on various African American heroes and events both virtually and in person. I am committed to creating a safe non bias space for children to express their thoughts and ideas. I have my Bachelors Degree in Business Administration and my Masters of Business Administration both with health services leadership minors. Currently I have also started courseware for my prospective Doctorate Degree in Executive Leadership. I am qualified to teach about various cultures due to real life experience I have visited over 60 countries in my life time and traveled full time for over 3 years. I also lived in Europe for over 2 years.
