This 60 minute class consists of personal experiences dealing with the anti-war movement during the Vietnam War Era of American History. Mr. Draper was both an active anti-war protester and after he was drafted he served in the USAF lying C-141 in and out of southeast Asia. The topics covered are widespread: from the mathematics of the Moratorium on Washington, DC to the folk music to Woodstock to the serendipity of the first draft since WWII. I use slides, lecture, music, Q & A, and a wealth of reflections that you will find informative, entertaining and colorful.

So the singular event in my life at age 16 was the job I was assigned in Job Corps LBJ version of Peace Corps) at the Long Island National Cemetery where I worked on burial details. All day along young men only years older than myself were being buried as result of being killed in Vietnam. It was quite "upsetting and scary" for me back then. I guess I will need to be careful in how I present that. My actual "in country" service while in the air force has stories but nothing like what an "in country" infantry soldier would have to share.

LBJ created Job Corps in a manner not unlike JFK and the Peace Corps. At age 16 my mother insisted I stop caddying and get a real job so I joined Job Corps and worked at the Long Island National Cemetery where every day of that summer I watched burial ceremonies for 18 year old boys/men(?) that had been killed in Vietnam. The taps, the gun salute, the folding of the flag, the passing of the flag to the grieving mothers. As an impressionable 16 year old high school student it is no wonder I morphed into an antiwar activist. But as Paul Harvey the radio commentator was so fond of saying "here's the rest of the story." レビュー
