Hello, and welcome! I am excited to offer this class again in 2023 after taking a year-long break from online teaching. I am so happy to be back and eager to meet your "future scientists" in class soon! Every experiment offers an exciting opportunity to learn something new! During each experiment, my goal is for your child to practice how to "think like a scientist" by using the scientific method. Learners will use the scientific method to develop a question, form a hypothesis, make...
1. Students will learn and utilize the scientific method each week in an experiment. 2. Students will understand the basic scientific concepts and vocabulary behind each experiment. 3. Students will develop their critical thinking skills.
As this class progress, I will frequently update the supply list to always include at minimum the next two weeks. We will be using common household items throughout this course so having to buy materials is unlikely. If a handout/worksheet is needed for the class, it will be posted to the classroom every Sunday for the current class. As always, let me know if you have any questions! -Learner Supply List (by week)- Please note - "(!)" The exclamation point symbol indicates we will be using a sharp object in class that day. Paternal supervision is always encouraged for younger learners! Week of Monday, January 9th: It's All Butter! 1. Heavy whipping cream 2. Container with a tight lid 3. Optional, but fun: A slice of toast to test out this edible experiment after :) Week of Monday, January 16th: Oobleck 1. 1 and 1/2 cups Cornstarch 2. 1 cup Water 3. Measuring cup(s) 4. Bowl, for mixing 5. Spoon, for mixing 6. Optional, but fun: food coloring, any color(s) 7. Optional, but prevents mess: Parchment paper, newspaper, any paper that's ok to get messy Week of Monday, January 23rd: Milky Science 1. Whole Milk, enough to fill a bowl of your choice roughly half full 2. Food coloring 3. Dish soap, only a small amount is needed (less than one tablespoon) 4. 1-3 Cotton swabs (Q-tips) 5. Bowl Week of Monday, January 30th: Snow Blizzard 1. Clear plastic cup 2. 1/2 cup White paint 3. Parental supervision is recommended when students use sharp objects like scissors or a knife. A (!) is placed next to each experiment name in the learner supply list to indicate days a sharp object is being used in class. Younger learners may require supervision and help to perform the experiment.
**IMPORTANT - I will be on a leave of absence from April 25, 2022 to July 25, 2022. During this time, I will be unable to teach and will have limited availability to respond to messages during this time. If you do have any questions or concerns,...
