In this once a week class  the student will have the opportunity to meet new friends.  Students will practice social skills in a group setting.  Each week will be a different theme. Students will practice speaking, asking questions and participating in discussions that are student centered and age appropriate. This class is meant to be a time of fun and interaction for students with peers their age in a safe environment.  I will facilitate the interactions between the students.  Most kids are shy meeting new friends.  This social club will allow them to practice meeting new friends and taking turns speaking.  Many kids do not yet know what a question is or how to ask a question.  This class will give them practice in higher level thinking by showing them how to ask questions and interact with a friend.  I will use a variety of ways to encourage participation such as games, questions  and my snowman Snowy.  Snowy has a mailbox that I use in each of my classes to keep the kids excited and engaged in each lesson.  My hope for this class is that students will be able to interact with peers their own age during a time in our history where many have not been able to socialize in a school setting in awhile.  I hope they have fun meeting new friends and learning valuable life long skills of personal interaction at the same time.
